Sony has reported that the PlayStation 3 has lost somewhere around 3.3 billion dollars. That's BILLION. With a 'b'. That's a lot!
People compalin that the PlayStation 3 is too expensive. (I would know. I work at Wal-Mart in Electronics.) Well, Sony has been selling them for less than it takes to make them, so that's how they lost money. Turns out people were actually getting a bargain, so they should just be quiet about the price!
This worries me a bit. It's predicted that the PS3 will do better this year, but I just hope that it's enough. If I really had to choose between the systems, the PlayStation is my favorite. Sure, Nintendo products have Pokemon and I wouldn't want to give them up. But I also love many of the PlayStation games and they were what really got me into gaming. I also just like how the system handles and the controls and stuff.
(Yes, I have a hard time explaining myself. Leave me alone.)
I just hope that their losses don't continue and they don't continue making gaming consoles. I don't want to see that happen. I might be worrying too much. I mean, we still have Kingdom Hearts 3 and Final Fantasy 13 to come in and save the PS3. They're just going to be a while. It just may be too soon to tell anything at this point.

I guess that explains why they haven't released the backwards compatible version of the PS3 in Europe. It's because the PS2 is still selling relatively well overhere and because it's much cheaper to make. If people only buy one machine to play both types of games, that would be bad for business. Boy, what were those guys of Sony thinking, chucking all those expensive parts in the PS3? I guess they thought the parts would become cheaper to produce later on. That's why the machine's generally become a little cheaper a few years after their first release. Oh well, I agree that it would be bad if Sony went belly up, because they are the only ones with tons of cheap games for their system.
On the other hand, unlike Nintendo, Sony doesn't solely rely on it's games-department for income. It has all sorts of stuff to sell. I don't think the company is in too much trouble yet, though I also don't hope they will quit the gaming industry all together. It's a good market. They just made a judgement error.

Yeah, I know they make good TV's and a lot of other things too, so I know the business itself will be okay. I'd just miss my system if they quit making them.
I actually don't have a PS3 yet. I want one that is backwards compatible too. They stopped sending them in! Hopefully they'll start up again.
One of the bonuses of the PS3 is that it can play Blue Ray discs. But the technology is still new and expensive, so I think that's one reason the PS3 is so pricey anyway. It is a great thing to be able to get a game system and a Blue Ray player all in one right now, but maybe they should have waited until Blue Ray's become more common and the price goes down. It probably would have helped.
That's one thing Nintendo said about the Wii. They thought about adding a DVD player, but figured that it would just make the system needlessly more expensive. A good move on their part it seems.

Yeah, though a lot of people still think it's cheap that Nintendo has the only system that won't play DVD. But I think the Wii is currently the cheapest system, right? Downside is of course that there hardly are any nice games right now. You've got Brawl, Pokémon Rev, Metroid, Mario Gallaxy and that's probably about it.

That's also a problem with the PS3. At least for me. There aren't many good games on it right now. I want one but then I have to remind myself that I wouldn't use it yet. There are a lot of war games and stuff and some big popular ones like Grand Theft Auto, but those just aren't my kind of game.
Once Kingdom Hearts 3 comes out, that'll be another story . . .

Lol. Maybe those racing and shooting games are easier to make or something? *holds breath and waits for the racer and shooter fans to start flaming*

Heh.
There is one shooter game I want to try though because it looks like it'd be funny. Bad Company. My brother has a XBox 360 so I could try it on there, but I'd rather play it on the Playstation. Just have to get one first I suppose.

Oh yeah, Bad Company from the Battlefield series. One of the few shooter series I actually liked. I've played a few of them, though I was never really good. My brothers have the pc versions and I've actually played against them every now and then. My oldest bro is very good with helicopters, it's scary. He used to kill me all the time by landing on me... He was in fact so good, he often just toyed with me, but one day I pulled a trick on him and caught him off guard. Meheheheheh. He had captured a helicopter, as usual, and I was an anti-tank soldier. That meant I was equiped with a grenade launcher, but unfortunately those grenades weren't heat-seeking. They just went straight. So I was out on a huge open field and couldn't get to cover in time. My bro was hovering opposite me (just hovering is a challenge in that game, but my bro has no problems with it). Instead of simply shooting me, he was taunting me to shoot my grenades. So I thought; 'Sure, I'll make you regret that.' I took out my launcher and shot my grenades at him, but every time I shot a grenade, my bro would just pull up or go side-ways or whatever, and the grenade would harmlessly zoom by. Eventually I was down to my last grenade and I knew I was in trouble. I could never shoot him at that range, especially if he would just dodge like that. But I also knew he probably couldn't see my characters weapons very well. So when I was down to my last grenade, I put my launcher away, pulled my handgun and started shooting randomly. As expected, my brother then thought I had run out of grenades and had resorted to my last-ditch efforts. Obviously, my pie-shooter would never take his chopter down, so he moved in to land on me again. He shot at him some more as he approached, until he was really close. Then I suddenly pulled my launcher out again and shot my grenade straight into his thingypit. So that was the end op the chopter, my brother and myself, as the chopter still crashed into me, but it felt good somehow. And my brother was really surprised and laughing.

Ha ha, that's quite the story. Made me laugh too. Sounds like fun.

I've heard that Bad Company is a great game, so I'll be trying it out sometime.
But more bad news for Sony! I was just reading a thing on Yahoo! again, (that's where I get pretty much all my news, from the Yahoo! front page,) and was looking at recent announcements from all three consoles. Although Sony had the biggest news and it looks like it'll be good for them, there was still something unexpected from Microsoft. And I quote:
"Although the Sony execs weren't visibly injured, Microsoft's press conference delivered them a metaphorical punch to the gut: (Vye: The perfect way to describe it as that is exactly how it felt to me,) the absolutely huge Final Fantasy series is no longer a PlayStation exclusive."
NOOOOO!
Final Fantasy XIII will also be on XBox 360. Dang it! Bill Gates, keep your mitts off Final Fantasy, okay?! It's PlaySation's thing!
Where my beloved Kingdom Hearts is made by the same people behind Final Fantasy, I worry that KH3 will also be shared with the XBox. I really, really hope not though! XBox has got Halo and stuff, ain't that enough? Do they have to pollute my favorite series too?
On a side note, Kingdom Hearts 3 has not been officially announced, but it might as well be! Kingdom Hearts 2 leaves off on a cliffhanger. Three more games have been announced; one for the Nintendo DS, one for PSP, and one for cell phones. They don't continue the story further, but help set up for another. So it's pretty obvious there will be another sequel. They just want to be all secretive about it I guess.

Heheheheheh. Seriously. Final Fantasy for the Xbox, huh? I... Well, it's not really my thing so I can't say it's really a punch in my gut, but I do know how lousy it feels when Xbox gobbles up previously exclusive games/companies. Rare should just go back to Nintendo... Period.
