We all like online battles and trades, but we also all know there can be many dangers. To avoid abuse of this section, please read the following rules:
On trades:
- Be as precise about the trade as you possibly can. Tell every little nit-picky detail about the Pokémon you are offering up for trade. Some people will really want to know all about that sort of stuff. This means you'll have to post stuff like nicknames, genders, stats, moves, IV's and EV's (if possible), natures, abilities and yes... The place where you caught it.
- With each Pokémon you offer up for trade I want you to specifically say whether it is a hack, a dupe or a legit. If you don't offer this information, the other party will generally ask for it anyway.
- I will not forbid you guys to offer hacked Pokémon up for trade. However, if the Pokémon you offer up for trade is a hack or a dupe, you MUST tell the other party. They have the right to know, because some people want to keep their games as clean as possible. If they refuse to trade with you, because the Pokémon is not a legit, you must respect this. If you are caught lying about a hacked Pokémon, you will be perma-banned from this forum.
- If you regret making a legit trade with someone, sort it out with THE OTHER PERSON. I'm not going to try to get the other person to reverse the trade with you (I probably wouldn't be succesful anyway), so please don't ask. Do not start flaming at each other on this forum about botched trades. Don't come to me unless you can prove you've been hassled by the other person. I can't reverse the trade, obviously, but I can ban the poster and make sure nobody else falls victim. In some cases I might also be able to compensate you for your loss, 'cause I'm a nice person, but it really depends on the situation.
On battles:
- When invited people to battle with you, you obviously expose yourself to some risk, especially if you battle using the DS. To minimize the risk, please be specific about the rules you want the other player to adhere to, before you start battling. State what level the Pokémon must be, how large the team must be, if there are some restrictions in which Pokémon may be used. For instance, some people prefer to battle without the use of legendary Pokémon, also known as Ubers (personally I couldn't care less about what another player throws my way, as long as it isn't a hacked Master Ball). Others don't want any held items in the match, or stuff like that. Be specific about rules like that.
- If the other player violates these rules, talk it over. Most of the time it's just some kid who doesn't quite know how to speak English and who may have misunderstood or forgotten the rules. If you can't settle it with a polite conversation, or if the other person is breaking your rules on purpose, just stop playing with that person.
- Just as there can be hacks in trades, there can be hacks in battles. People can hack their Pokémon to be shinies, to hold rare items, to have unusually high stats or know impossible moves. These hacked Pokémon can be much harder to beat, though it isn't always impossible. Unlike on the Wii, DS battles may still allow hacked Pokémon to be entered, so chances are you will encounter quite a few hacks when you battle. A hacker is not automatically an evil person, though. They just don't like to spend that much time training and would rather just battle. Most people will respect your wishes if you say you would like to battle with legits only. You may NOT, under any circumstances start flaming a hacker on this forum just for being a hacker. Remember, they are people too.
- So, in order to avoid trouble with hacked Pokémon in battles, state whether or not you will allow the other player to use hacked Pokémon. And be specific about it. Some people only hack to get a shinies or to get event exclusive Pokémon. Having these does not automatically give you an edge in battle. State whether or not you want to ban ALL hacks, or just the ones with hacked stats, abilities and moves.
On Master Ball hackers:
- Some people will use their cheat device to allow them to use items in link battles. This allows them to heal or revive their Pokémon with items and yes, it even allows them to throw Master Balls at YOUR Pokémon. And yes, these will capture your Pokémon and you will lose them. However, there is no need to panic. First of all, this can only happen in DS battles. Second of all, the capture only becomes permanent if you allow the capture to take place, complete the battle and allow the game to save. Master Ball hackers are usually quite malicious and will act in a suspicious way, perhaps asking you if you have any rare shinies and if they may pleeeaase see them in battle. If a player uses a Master Ball on you and you see your Pokémon go in, just turn off your DS. This will disconnect you from the Internet and stop the theft dead in its tracks, without any adverse effects on your game. Sure, you may have missed the battle, but at least you still have your Pokémon. To minimize the risk of theft, only battle with people you know and/or trust.
- Theft will not be tolerated on this forum. If you use this forum to trick anyone and to steal their Pokémon, I will not just ban you. I stick you name and your friendcode on my blacklist, making sure nobody will ever want to play with you again. This may be just a game to you, but some people spent a lot of time training their Pokémon. Stealing is wrong, so grow up and start realizing that.
These are my rules and tips. I haven't actually played online yet myself, so I can't speak from my own experience, but I'm sure that most online players are just out there to have some fun, just like you and me. Whatever happens, don't let other people ruin your fun. I hope this bit was useful. Enjoy!
